Oral health is more than focusing on preventing cavities in your teeth, your gums need attention too! Let's brush up on some healthy habits!

1. Brush Twice Daily: When brushing, use gentle, circular motions. This massages and cleans the teeth and gums. Using a back and forth motion can cause irritation and damage to your gums.

2. Floss Daily: Flossing helps removes plaque and food from places your toothbrush can't reach. Be gentle when you floss, carefully slide the floss up and down along the curve of each tooth, do not force it between your teeth.

3. Rinse with Mouthwash: Using mouthwash daily helps kill the bacteria that cause gum disease, and it leaves you with fresh breath.

4. Professional Cleaning Twice a Year: Dental hygienists will professionally clean your teeth and assess the health of your teeth and gums. Early detection is crucial to preventing problems from progressing any further.

5. Eat a Well-Balanced Diet: A balanced diet filled with plenty of vitamins and nutrients to boost your immune system and help your body fight off harmful bacteria, inflammation, and infection which will also minimize the likelihood of developing any gum problems.

6. Drink Plenty of Water: After eating, drinking water can help wash away food and lessens the change that bacteria will form plaque that can damage your gums.

7. Relax and De-Stress: Having high stress levels causes the amount of the stress hormone, cortisol, to increase which increases the likelihood of inflammation.

8. Say No to Tobacco Products: Smoking or using other tobacco products causes a higher risk of developing gum disease or receding gums. Tobacco users are also more likely to have hard to remove plaque.
